Gardening is Not for Everyone

 This is the time of year when the hot weather plants are slowing down. But it’s also time to harvest some of the things you’ve grown all year. The sweet potatoes had some early signs of frost so it was time to harvest. The best way to do this in our size garden is purely by hand. It is hard dirty work but I love sweet potatoes so it’s worth it. At least I think it is   My hands are very sore. We weighed our harvest- 122 pounds of sweet potatoes. Some are small but we have some really big ones and lots of medium ones too.

Fruits of our Labors

Early this Spring I planted tomato and pepper seeds for this year’s garden. Then came the stay home order so we decided to do a very large garden. The best part of gardening is the harvest. I’ve got tomatoes and peas in the freezer, Anasazi and lima beans drying and cucumbers in the pickle jar. I know that harvesting tells the plant to keep producing. Our garden is in “middle age” because it’s showing a few flaws but we are still getting lots of veggies.  At this time of year I like to eat something from the garden every day. Lots of Fun

 We have had a couple of fun days. We went to the zoo today. There are things that weren’t open or are being remodeled. We still had fun. Frank wondered if taking care of peacocks and peahens would be like taking care of chickens. Here are some pictures from the zoo and their new t-shirts.
